George & Marg Clarke, Scottish Blend Farm Legacy Fund
Lori McCarrell wanted to ensure her parents received full recognition for their lifetime of hard work and so pushed for the formation of the George and Marg Clarke, Scottish Blend Farm Legacy Fund.
Scottish Blend Farm Legacy Fund
The Purpose
The Legacy Fund in Memory of George & Marg Clarke, Scottish Blend Farm honours a family whose deep roots in the land, agriculture, and community stretch back more than 150 years. Established to carry forward George and Marg’s love of farming and livestock, the fund supports the Lindsay Agricultural Society’s Fair Sheep Events, including sponsorship of prizes, trophies, and participant awards.
Looking to the future, it will also help nurture learning opportunities through an educational bursary award delivered in partnership with the Society or another qualified organization. Just as Scottish Blend Farm was built on hard work, family, and a lasting love of animals, this fund ensures that the Clarkes’ legacy will continue to inspire and support generations to come.
Scottish Blend
For over 150 years, the Clarke name has stayed,
On this family farm where the roots were laid.
A stately barn with gambrel roof so grand,
White with green trim, the heart of the land.
Dad was born here, on this soil so dear,
And bought the farm from his father’s care.
With Mom by his side, through each season’s call,
They raised a family, giving their all.
Mom and Dad, they loved the land,
With calloused hands and hearts so grand.
In the barn, Dad would whistle and sing,
As the horses worked, steady through spring.
Through fields they plowed, through hay they’d bale,
Working together, they’d never fail.
The horses were trusted, partners so true,
In every task, they helped pull through.
The farm was alive with animals so dear—
Suffolk sheep grazing year after year.
Short Horn and Limousin cattle would roam,
While Buff Cochin chickens called the barn home.
And Belgian horses, proud and strong,
Worked side by side, all day long.
Then, as years passed, a new bond was formed,
Dad and daughter, their hearts warmed.
A pair of horses, strong and proud,
They showed them together, heads lifted, unbowed.
Now the barn stands quiet, the work is done,
Mom and Dad have passed, but their legacy runs on.
In the soil, in the barn, in the skies up above,
Their memory endures, a testament of love.
Scottish Blend lives on, with stories to tell,
Of hard work, of family, of love that swells.
Though they’ve passed on, their spirits remain,
In the land, in the barn, in the soft summer rain.
