The Purpose

“It’s daunting—you often don't even know what questions to ask or where to look for help. My aim in supporting this fund is to share my experiences as a new business owner in a pandemic and a new mother. I was fortunate to have support when I started my business, but many women don't. We created this fund to remove barriers, lift women up and help them find their calling in entrepreneurship.”

– Dr. Jacquelyn Nicholls, founder of Adelaide Clinic

Fund Background

The fund grew from the successes and challenges of two generations of entrepreneurial women. Business leader Marlene Morrison Nicholls has spent a lifetime challenging the status quo, creating equitable opportunities for women in her company and advocating for diversity, equity and inclusion in the business community. Marlene knew she wanted to create a legacy fund to empower women, reduce barriers and grow opportunity, and her vision came into focus as she watched her daughter, Jacquelyn Nicholls, open her own business.

While Marlene was in a position to offer Jacquelyn support, many women who want to start a business face barriers, including a lack of funding and mentorship. The Women Changemakers Fund aims to change that, providing resources to empower entrepreneurial women.

Core Values

Leadership
We lead by example and offer mentorship, empowering women to be strong leaders in business and the community.

Integrity
We act with integrity and fairness, always doing what is right over what is easy.

Inclusion
Not all women have the same opportunities or barriers, so we use an intersectional lens to support equitable inclusion.

Projects

First project proposed is the Omemee Splash Pad planned for the Omemee Beach Park, in the north end of greenspace. Information on availability of water capacity within the Omemee Drinking Water System (DWS) is being reviewed. Engineering study is underway to determine where the water is to come from. With final report approval, the required capital costs to install the splash pad will be covered by fundraising and generous donations from people like you.

“Over the past 45 years, I have encouraged the women in my family, my business and my community to challenge gender barriers and strive for the career of their dreams! Together we are changemakers, and we are here to support a new generation of women leaders.to promote and create opportunities to increase biodiversity in the region.”
